Portugal is a relatively small country in Europe, in the western part of the Iberian Peninsula. Despite its size, it is a world-famous country, known for its stunning ocean beaches, its beautiful capital and its history.

Portugal’s most popular city is its capital, Lisbon, located in the central region of the country, on the Atlantic coast, along the huge estuary of the Tagus River. Lisbon is a city of modern gastronomy and art, a colourful and exciting place. The city itself and its surroundings offer many attractions for tourists, some of them are must-see places for travellers. Think of the yellow tram 28 through the narrow Lisbon streets, or Sintra Castle in the countryside. Or the world-famous Golden Gate-style Ponte 25 de Abril bridge and the nearby Sanctuary of Christ the King.

Another famous part of Portugal is the Algarve region. On the southern coast of Portugal, Algarve offers golden sandy beaches, rock formations of extraordinary beauty and charming towns for an unforgettable holiday. The Atlantic Coast offers a wonderful opportunity not only for relaxation but also for active recreation.

The third Portuguese place that almost everyone knows is Madeira. Madeira is the largest of the volcanic Madeira Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Madeira is a different face of Portugal, with its fabulous mountains, stunning flowers, and pleasant weather, guaranteeing the perfect relaxation.

Portugal has a rich history. The journeys of the great explorers mostly started here in the 15th and 16th centuries, when the capital became one of the most important port cities.

The most famous dish in Portuguese gastronomy is a dessert called Pasteis de nata. If you are in Lisbon, it is worth a taste.

The recommended time to travel in Portugal: the weather is pleasant all year round, with temperatures rarely dropping below 15°C in winter and rising above 30°C in summer due to the influence of the sea. Perhaps it is worth traveling to Portugal from spring to autumn due to less rainfall.

Portugal is ideal for a couple of days or a week-long trip to experience the local way of life, Portuguese food, beaches and architecture.
