• Fewer crowds: Compared to the peak summer season, June in Santorini is less crowded. Especially in the first half of the month, you can plan a summer trip without the overwhelming crowds.
• Lower accommodation prices: Since June is not yet full high season, you can expect lower prices than in July and August, when most European families are on vacation.
  Also, based on our experience, it’s a good idea to focus on last-minute deals in June because many hotels have to offer discounts on early summer rooms if the demand isn’t strong.
• Everything is open: This isn’t always the case for Mediterranean destinations, as many places in Santorini close for the winter and usually reopen in spring. But by June, everything is already fully open.
• Easier driving and parking: With fewer tourists than in the peak summer months, parking and transportation are also easier in June. In the middle of summer, these can be difficult, but in early summer, it’s easier if you’re traveling by car on Santorini.
• Beautiful light for photography: If you want to return with great photos, June is the perfect choice. The days are long, the light is stunning, there are lots of flowers, and with good weather (which is the most common), you can enjoy the Santorini landscapes in all their beauty. I think June is the best month for photography.

Disadvantages of a trip in June

• Can be too hot and too dusty: Santorini can get very hot even at the start of summer, and the dry weather often brings a lot of dust. Of course, this isn’t guaranteed, and you might experience pleasant weather in June. However, be prepared that early summer temperatures, even at 26-30°C, can feel intense due to the strong sunlight.
• Higher prices than in the shoulder season: If you don’t like extreme heat or don’t want to go to the beach, a visit in April, May, or October might be a better option due to more affordable prices.
• Not ideal for beach time: If you’re planning to go to the beach in Santorini, it’s better to choose the hottest months of July or August when the sea is warmer. In June, you can expect the water to still be quite cold.

The weather in Santorini is quite predictable, and in June, you can expect generally pleasant early summer temperatures.

Of course, it’s always possible to encounter some windy or rainy days, but the island’s climate is overall quite consistent and steady.

June brings plenty of sunshine, pleasant warmth, and almost everything you need for a perfect early summer getaway in terms of weather.

Generally, you can expect the following weather in Santorini in June:

Daytime temperatures

The daytime maximum temperatures usually range between 25°C and 30°C, with little variation throughout the day or the entire month.

This can generally be considered pleasant summer weather. There is usually no rain in June, or only very little.

However, in extreme cases, like during our trip in June 2024, when there was a heatwave in Greece, temperatures can rise up to 35°C.

Nighttime temperatures

At night in June, you can enjoy pleasant summer evenings in Santorini, with nighttime minimum temperatures usually between 17°C and 22°C.

It rarely gets colder than that, so you’ll likely only need a light jacket in the evening.

Sea temperature

The water temperature usually ranges between 20°C and 24°C, which I think might still be a bit too cold for swimming. However, if you enjoy colder water or, with a bit of luck, the water is warmer towards the end of the month, then I would recommend going to the beach.

How hot is Santorini in June?

Generally, Santorini doesn’t get as hot as other parts of Southern Europe. The daytime maximum temperature rarely goes above 30°C.

However, there can be occasional hot periods with intense heatwaves. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to check the weather forecast for Santorini before your trip.

How windy is Santorini in June?

Santorini can be quite windy in June due to the “Meltemi” winds, with speeds often reaching 20-30 km/h. These winds are refreshing but can be strong.

Best time to visit Santorini: What else if not June?

June is definitely one of the best months for any European trip, including Santorini. But what are other ideal months to visit Santorini if not June?

Personally, my favorites are May, September, and October.

• In May, the weather is already nice on Santorini, making it perfect for sightseeing and taking good photos. Plus, prices are more affordable than in the summer.
• In September, even though it can still be crowded and prices can be high, the weather is still quite summery. It’s a popular time to travel.
• In October, it may be a bit cooler, and some hotels and restaurants start to close in the second half of the month, but with good planning, it’s an ideal time for a lower-budget trip.

So, if not June, I would choose the second half of May, the second half of September, or the first half of October.

Best places not to miss during a June visit

Make sure to visit these places if you’re traveling to Santorini in June:

1. Oia

Oia is one of Santorini’s most popular villages, located on the northern part of the island, on the hillside.

From here, you can experience the most breathtaking views of the island. The village is especially famous for its sunsets, as there are many amazing spots to watch the sunset, whether from the street, a hotel pool, or a restaurant terrace.

When you’re in Oia, walk along Nikolaou Nomikou Street, the village’s main pedestrian street, where you can reach the best viewpoints with a few small detours.

Don’t miss the area around the Castle of Oia, take a walk down the Oia Steps, and head towards the Glitzy Windmill. In the other direction, make sure to visit the iconic blue-domed churches.

It’s worth spending a day or two in Oia. If you want the best photos, time your walks early in the morning to avoid the crowds, and be sure to catch the sunsets for the amazing colors.

If you’re looking for peace and great sunset views, it’s worth booking a hotel with a nice view. That way, you can enjoy the stunning view without dealing with the crowds, such as in Old Castle Oia.

2. Fira

Fira is the capital of Santorini, located on the western edge of the island, offering stunning views of the caldera.

The town is lively, with a mix of traditional white buildings and modern shops, cafés, and restaurants. Fira is perfect for those who want to enjoy both the beauty of the island and its vibrant atmosphere.

It’s a great idea to visit the Old Harbor, which you can reach on foot, by donkey, or by cable car. Many boat tours depart from here.
